Stroll along the newly revamped Khlong Ong Ang Walking Street in Bangkok to immerse in the lively scene of enticing street eats, local artists, and other unique trinkets.

Bangkok has long been known for its lively street scenes, with bustling stalls offering some of the country’s best culinary gems, unique trinkets, and iconic souvenirs. Exploring all the city’s charms is most suitably done on foot. Nestled in Chinatown, Khlong Ong Ang Walking Street is the perfect area where one could amble along in cool evenings to enjoy some local delights. Eat Vacation is pleased to say that it has recently reopened and ready to welcome locals and tourists alike.

This unique attraction takes place from 4pm to 10pm on the weekends, stretching over 1.5 km on either side of Khlong Ong Ang, amid Damrong Sathit Bridge and Saphan Han Bridge. After some restorative initiatives, this walking street now boasts the inviting allures of an urban lifestyle that’s full of character.

Imagine walking along the paved streets after a long day of exploring Bangkok, traversing the stalls with various offerings. From T-shirts and shoes, to toys, plants, accessories, and other knickknacks. Around you, the bustles of an exuberant crowd ring with children’s laughter, buskers playing their tunes, sellers promoting their products, and the tempting clanks of woks and sizzling pans.

That’s right, Khlong Ong Ang Walking Street has its own line-up of scrumptious street foods. One could find authentic local delights such as rice dishes to grilled squid and traditional sweets. The most recent restoration project has revamped what was a muddled gathering of hawker stalls into the tranquil oasis tourists can see today. Additionally, authorities have cleaned the canal water and banks to enhance the landscape even more.

The Khlong Ong Ang renovation project was recently awarded the 2020 Asian Townscape Awards from the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

One could easily spot a henna body painting stall, or local artisans providing hair extensions and dreadlocks. In another corner, artists who will draw your live portrait, while canoes await that could take you floating along the canal. Getting to the area is fairly straightforward; Eat Vacation could easily find it three minutes’ walk away from the Sam Yot MRT station. It is also close to the infamous Khao San Road and Chao Phraya River.
