The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s ‘SEXY’ tourism initiative has been designed to boost traveller confidence through safety, environmental sustainability, extra experiences and yield.

As the global population makes a slow and steady advancement toward a post-COVID era, countries around the world are implementing various new normal strategies to reinforce traveller confidence. The tourism industry is one that has been heavily impacted by this pandemic, so Eat Vacation is delighted to know that it is recovering bit by bit.

Among those, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is introducing the all-new ‘SEXY’ concept to help restore the country’s health and safety assurances. Build on four main keys, this initiative focuses on Safety and hygiene, Environmental sustainability, X-extra experiences, and Yield. Those who have been craving to immerse in the beauty of this Southeast Asian kingdom can now look forward to safe and sustainable travel.

Under four key focuses, Safety and hygiene, Environmental sustainability, X-extra experiences, and Yield, the ‘SEXY’ tourism concept aims to restore traveller confidence post-COVID-19.

The TAT Governor, Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, hopes that this strategy will help recover the Thai economy and tourism industry as they make their strongest comeback. He explains that TAT will be ensuring to align itself with the policies of public and private sector organisations. He said, “Together, TAT and Thai tourism stakeholders will reshape the image of Thailand with core messages highlighting the importance of safe and sustainable travel.”

Eat Vacation is particularly assured because safety and hygiene remains the number one priority. Not only is taking extra cleanliness measures crucial to curb the infection spread, this is a good habit for anyone to continue with. The Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) has offered their support for this. From May 2020, over 8,000 business establishments nationwide have received a special certificate to ensure the well-being of those involved, from the practitioners to customers alike.

To be rolled out during 2021-2022, the ‘SEXY’ tourism concept is in response to the changes in travel behaviour and TAT’s goal to restore Thailand’s tourism

The environmental sustainability aspect aims to improve Thailand’s sustainable tourism. It will build on past strategies such as the Thai wildlife conservation and ‘Upcycling the Oceans Thailand’ campaign. Additionally, extra experiences are intended to reveal new ways to experience the kingdom’s extensive destinations. Finally, the y in ‘SEXY’ stands for yield. This is an attempt to focus on high-value tourist potentials instead of mass tourism, which will let them emphasize their efforts on revenue-generating visitors.
