The Thai Cabinet has recently approved a proposal to grant special tourist visas for long-term visitors, giving travelers more time to venture into its palatial kingdom and immerse in the local culture, history and cuisine.

Many who seek an affordable, yet magical tropical escapade will often think of Thailand. This country, often called the Land of Smiles, is well acclaimed for its sumptuous culinary scene, rejuvenating massage, breathtaking beaches and rich temples. It becomes no surprise that this Southeast Asian country is top on every traveler’s bucket list and dream vacation, or that tourists often spend months exploring the kingdom.

The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports has proposed that long-staying visitors should be granted a special tourist visa (STV), which the Thai Cabinet has recently approved. This scheme allows visitors to stay in Thailand for 90 days while being able to extend it twice. Each extension will give them 90 more days to stay in the country, and costs 2,000 Baht.

Eat Vacation could reasonably assume that most travelers will be delighted by this news, as it gives them a longer chance to venture to Thailand’s numerous beaches, historical sites and rolling countryside. Not to mention the opportunity to taste as many delectable treats as possible that this country has to offer!

Not to worry about aggravating the spread of the novel Coronavirus, as only those who have complied to the country’s Covid-19 control measures will be granted the STV. Visitors are also obliged to go through a 14-day quarantine period upon arrival. Eat Vacation is assured that the authorities will enforce a series of stringent preventive protocols. This includes asking for proof of their long-term residence address in Thailand.
