If you have been longing for some recreational walks in the city, The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has decided to reopen five botanic gardens from Tuesday, 19 May 2020 with special bonus: a free entry at Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden for visitors up until Sunday, 31 May 2020. Situated on the foothills of the mist-shrouded Doi Suthep-Pui mountains in Chiang Mai, the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden opens daily from 8.30am to 5.00pm.

The Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden is located 30 minutes north of Chiang Mai, along the windy road to Samoeng. It is the first botanical garden in Thailand which complies with international standard. Aside from Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden, the other four botanic gardens which are already reopened are Romklao Botanical Garden in Phitsanulok, Rayong Botanic Garden in Rayong, Mueang Pon Botanic Garden in Khon Kaen, and Phra Mae Ya Botanic Garden in Sukhothai.

TAT, collaborating with Botanic Garden Organisation and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has emphasised that the reopening of the botanical gardens are to be followed with health and safety control measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which includes body temperature screening and checking in with the “Thai Chana” online platform before entry.

In addition to the initial steps above, visitors are required to wear a surgical or cloth mask at all times while in the gardens. They also have to follow the social distancing guidelines and make sure to frequently wash hands. To support this initiative, hand sanitisers are provided at all servicing points. Before and after visiting hours, all areas of the gardens are monitored and covered by anti-virus cleaning procedures and disinfectant spray.
