What’s the future of hospitality industry look like? To address the spread of COVID-19, major hotel brands are putting health and safety front and center. World’s premiere hotel chain Shangri-La Group which is based in Hong Kong recently announced the “Shangri-La Cares” commitment, showing a further upgrade to a more stringent health and safety precautions at all Shangri-La properties worldwide to ensure guests have complete confidence and peace of mind during their stay.

As some countries eases the restrictions and people are embracing the new normal, Shangri-La Group has rolled out a pilot programme at select hotels. In this period, the hotels have refined additional health and safety protocols and to improve the already rigorous operational protocols as a respond to the global pandemic. All new procedures and protocols are going to be finalized immediately and will be introduced globally.

Complying with the standards established by World Health Organization, Shangri-La has ensured its operational protocols are even more comprehensive. To combat the risk of spread of COVID-19, concrete health and safety measures have been adopted at all hotels and resorts. These protocols include: 1) increased frequency and full attention to deep cleaning of all high-touch surfaces and areas used by guests throughout the hotels; 2) use of medical grade sanitisers and disinfectants which are approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency; 3) increased cleaning frequency of air filters and air-conditioner systems to ensure optimal air quality; and 4) safe dining, meetings and events with extra precautions to respect physical distancing and enhanced food safety practices.

Colleagues, or staffs, at all Shangri-La’s properties are equipped with enhanced training, learning and development resources on essential preparatory and prevention measures. Provided by global hygiene solutions Diversey, the mandatory modules include direction on cleaning and sanitisation frequency. Colleagues are also equipped with personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves. To ensure a safe work environment, Shangri-La will continue to build awareness on sanitation standards, as well as developing programmes for colleagues on stringent personal hygiene practices.

Shangri-La Group is continuously reviewing and updating its standard and practices in light of the situation. Its ongoing commitment includes enhanced operational guidance, safety and sanitation protocols on infection prevention and outbreak readiness programmes that are developed in close cooperation with Diversey. The Group has rigorous processes in place to verify the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection protocols and will monitor compliance with regular inspections and reporting tools.
